“If love is the only way to create a world in harmony, love should emanate from equality for all, not only in education but also in becoming active disciplines in witnessing faith, hope, and love for all”.

The Gender and Development (GAD) supports the desire of St. Mary’s College of Tagum, Inc. to promote gender equality and awareness among the administrators, faculty, personnel, students, and other stakeholders of the school. The integration of GAD into the vision of St. Mary’s College of Tagum, Inc. is articulated as:

‘True to our Ignacian Marian identity, we empower and nurture learners to become ethical and service-oriented and engaged citizens toward inner and social transformation for the common good.’

SMCTI aims to:

  • Grow deeper in discernment and interior freedom and be a prophetic witness to faith, hope, and love in today’s world; and
  • Build up resources and capabilities and create new paradigms to address social harmony towards a dignified life.

The Gender and Development (GAD) agenda of St. Mary’s College of Tagum, Inc. is aligned with the 1987 Philippine Constitution, which enshrines “equality between men and women” and recognizes the role of both in development and nation-building. The Catholic Education Association of the Philippines (CEAP), with its JEEPGY Manual 2018, articulates gender equality by advocating for the end of discrimination against women, the integration of the LGBTQ community into society, respect for all brothers and sisters in Christ, and the promotion of gender-fair education.

St. Mary’s College of Tagum, Inc. Supports a Smoke-Free Campus

At St. Mary’s College of Tagum, Inc., we are committed to promoting a healthy and safe environment for our students, staff, and visitors. In alignment with Tagum City’s Anti-Smoking Ordinance No. 703 of 2015 and the Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003, we stand united with the nation in enforcing Executive Order 26, the Nationwide Smoking Ban.

Moreover, we strictly adhere to the Department of Education Memorandum 1606 issued on December 3, 2019, which prohibits the use of e-cigarettes and other electronic nicotine and non-nicotine delivery systems. This memo reiterates the absolute ban on tobacco smoking within schools and DepEd offices.

To maintain a smoke-free environment, anyone caught smoking within the school premises will face disciplinary actions as outlined in our student handbook. Specifically, Section 10.5.13 which states that “purchasing, selling, using, possessing, or distributing alcoholic drinks or cigarettes” is an offense punishable by suspension. Moreover, a signage on No Smoking is placed in strategic locations within the campus as a reminder for all on the school’s advocacy on No Smoking.
